Project Reality 2 is seeking programmers, modelers, and artists, although experience in CryEngine 3 is preferred. It will still be some time before a public release becomes available, but if playing the original mod isn’t enough anymore, you could apply to work on the game instead. An internal alpha should be ready for testing in the next two months, recreating Project Reality‘s Fools Gold, and a map set in Laskar Gar, Afghanistan. The initial release will focus on small-scale infantry combat in 1 to 2 km environments, and will likely expand to include realistic vehicle combat. Project Reality 2 is being built from scratch in CryEngine 3, and according to its official announcement has been in development since mid-2012. After a long and happy life as mods for both Battlefield 2 and Arma 2, realistic tactical shooter Project Reality is going standalone. If that sounds intriguing, you’ll be happy to hear that Project Reality is getting a standalone release in the form of Project Reality 2, a free-to-play independent game using CryEngine 3. I'd personally recommend getting this game if you like tactical, realistic, gritty shooters. There is a zoom function but it doesn't help much. Like real life, it's hard to see other people so a lot of your time is spent squinting at the monitor to try to discern between terrain and a person. Some maps are huge, meaning you have to run for some time in order to get into a fight, but it's worth it.Ī huge concern for me is the difficulty of seeing enemies. Gameplay is super tactical, meaning you better have a mic and follow your squad leader's orders. Sounds are great (explosions especially) and graphics are decent. Firefights are intense as hell and, the first time I got into a close engagement with an enemy, my heart literally started pounding and I spazzed out and died. So far it's pretty fun, but it might be a bit clunky-feeling for the average FPS player. I'm getting 30-40FPS on a full 50-player server with:
